Films That Inspire Me

Tuesday, January 7, 2020

I love nothing more then to cozy up on the sofa and watch a good well made film with actors that can bring the story to life and leaving you wishing you could be a part of the it all, even if only for a few moments.

So I wanted to write a blog post including a few of my all time favorite - go to and re-watch anytime to lift my mood or to just get inspired again.

These are in no order in particular.

And I highly recommend that you give them a watch, if you fancy.

A Brief Encounter 1945

i'll admit as much as I love old movies, not many of them can keep me on the edge of my seat with my pillow clutched in my hands as I watch the scenes unfold before my eyes - but guys, this movie right here did just that. It randomly came on TCM as I was playing the channel in the background only to have some "noise" as I like to call it while I was cleaning my room. Then I noticed the music, captivating film noir cinematography and story line. I sat down on my bed to admire the opening shot of the train station scene and then didn't get up until it was over, an hour and a half later. It's slow to start, as most older films are but once it gets going you're simply in it - or at least as a hopeless romantic like myself, I was.

The Dreamers 2003

This film started a lot of things for me - first off my obsession with Eva Green, as an actress, fashion icon and all around cool french girl.. .and last but not least, the most important of them all - my new found love for in-depth meaningful films. Before this it was all romantic movies, romcoms and the occasional teenage tv show *cough cough The OC, Gossip Girl and others that will not be named* This movie introduced me to Paris in a way I have never seen before.

A Woman Is A Woman 1961

This was the very first Jean-Luc Godard film I ever watched.
It's a classic, as I'm sure you already know if you like me love anything from the french new wave moment. It is an iconic node to the start of the 60's and groundbreaking results of his work. From the fashion in it to the script and the humor of the message it encompasses this film is a must see.

Sera Hersham-Loftus / An Interior Genius

I absolutely adore her way of romancing her space with so my elements. Starting with the cozy plush velvet throw over the sofa to the warm tones and textures of the walls, plants and vintage rugs. The warm lighting sets the perfect tone for a seductive living room that reminds me of old Hollywood circa silent film era.

Living in The Moment

Wednesday, December 25, 2019

After listening to Eckhart Tole’s audible version of the book “The Power of Now” last summer I have found myself more and more focused on the simple moments of my day. Like in the last post, where I speak of the beauty of the present moment in those photos.

I naturally always find mind racing from one thought to the next, thoughts like “have I had enough water today? what do I still need to do on my to-do list?” or judgements of myself or others, which are the most annoying and self deprecating. Being too harsh on myself for how I may have come off in a conversation, wondering what someone’s impression was of me - or just being mean to myself, not liking what I wore that day and feeling regret for not taking more time to dress myself or put on more make up because geez my acne really looks bad today and so on…

These thoughts all take away from the beauty of the moment and not only that but the magic of the possibilities that could unfold in that very moment if you were just present. Maybe a new idea for a business or actually making eye contact with your barista and having a lovely conversion - in the moment! Not judging yourself in your mind of what you did in the past or worrying about the future.

I’m working each day to create a new habit I guess you could say…of living more in the now and not in the past or the later future. I want to really become more aware of the now. So in doing so I can be more pleasant to be around and in a way a truer version of myself, not what my anxieties make me to be.

Finding Space for Yourself

Lately.
Ive been taking some time
to slow down
and look around me
breathe in
breathe out
Knowing that this moment
has endless possibility
for inspiration
to make big moves
or to stay still
and just be
for as quickly as it comes
it shall pass
with ease and grace

Autumn Bucket List // 2018

Thursday, September 20, 2018
It's that time of year again, and if you're anything like me this is the most magical, cozy and happiest time of all.

It's a time for self reflection and thinking about your goals for the new season and the rest of the year.
And while all of this is beneficial for your personal growth and development it is also fun to throw in some "seasonal shenanigans" to keep things light and fun.

So here's a bucket list of a few things i'd like to do before the season is over...

-  Visit my local drive in movie theaters - if you live in Houston, Showboat is the one to visit!
   - Buy a cozy candle or wax melt ( my new favorite thing ) I really love this one from Etsy
       -   Go camping or stay at an airbnb ( fancier expense but camping is usually budget friendly if you do it right )
- Bake ! This can be anything from cookies to a pumpkin spice loaf ( this one looks delish! )
- Take a trip to your local farmers market & buy flowers or jam ! or both! haha
- Watch an Harry Potter marathon ~ with hot coco ~
- Watch You've Got Mail ( just saw this one and wow, it's so cheesy in all the right ways)

And lastly, although this is defiantly my favorite out of the list above - to to a haunted house! I love a good scare and love the thrill of visiting a haunted house with some good friends, if you live in Houston i'd highly recommend going to Fearshire Farms - they have hotdogs and beer to enjoy and calm your nerves while you wait in line ; )

I hope you all are having a fantastic week so far and please leave a comment below letting me know what your favorite things to do this time of year.

Dressing for Yourself

Monday, September 17, 2018

Sometimes when I'm browsing Instagram or Pinterest or Tumblr( oh the many forms of social media..) and I think, where do I fit in? What kind of "style" do I have? How do I want others to see me and have that first impression on who I am as a person based on what my "style is"...

Well, I can't say that I don't still struggle with this definition of myself on the day to day. But I am taking strides in the right direction to become more and more comfortable with making my own choice on what I choose to wear with out thinking " Is this too much?" or " Someone may say this is so unlike me to wear those printed pants and these high heels"

Because at the end of it all. Its your choice and it's your body that you are dressing, so why take the one thing that gives you the most freedom in expression away or monetize it due to what some coworker or stranger on the street may say?

So here I am, wearing one of my favorite outfits to repeat - this army green jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters and a basket bag. Of which I do tend to wear once every two weeks since I purchased it about two months ago. The old me would think " don't you care if someone calls you out on wearing this multiple times? " - Well for that I can some one thing - Maybe I was a few months back  that person who would care and vow not to wear something again for a while after being called out as an "outfit repeater" but now I have chosen comfort and my own confidence in what I'm wearing, despite others opinions on how often or how uncharacteristic of me to do so...

I hope you do the same.

Because life is too short and clothes are way too much fun to keep yourself in a category.

Have a lovely week everyone!!

xoxo
